Festival
Details

  • Rogue Theater Festival accepts submissions of all kinds. If you're not sure, submit it and we'll be in touch 

  • Performances: Thursday- Sunday: August 20-23 (each show will have 1 performance)

  • Tech Rehearsal: Monday- Friday: August 17-20 (each show will have 1 tech rehearsal slot)

  • Location: 13th St. Repertory Theater (50 W. 13th St. Manhattan)

  • Each show will have sound and lighting design done for them prior to their tech rehearsal 

  • Tickets will be available online and at the door 

Participants
Receive

  • Theater space at 13th St. Rep for one performance over the weekend

  • Theater space for one tech rehearsal per piece during the festival week 

  • Professional Stage Manager to run Lighting and Sound for tech and performances 

  • Box Office Manager and House Manager 

  • Professional Assistant Stage Manager to run backstage 

  • Marketing Services for the festival

  • Hardcopy festival Postcards and digital individual show postcards

  • Use of predetermined set pieces at the theater 

  • Professionally recorded video of your show

  • 25% of box office sales for your individual show

Participation
Requirements

  • Length: 10 minutes to 1 hour long with no intermission

  • It may be a play, musical, comedy/clowning, one person or dance based show, etc. If you have something else we’d be thrilled to hear from you too!

  • It must be an original work but having been performed before is fine

  • (10- 30 mins) - Must sell 15 Tickets at $15 each per show.

  • (30- 60 mins) - Must sell 20 tickets at $20 each

Things
to consider

  • All participants are fully responsible for producing their own plays. This includes covering all costs of production (e.g. rehearsal space, transportation fees, salaries, marketing, etc.).

  • Each show will keep 25% of their box office profits

  • Each show must sell the minimum ticket requirement or buyout remaining tickets 

  • Shows will be assigned tech and performance date and time on acceptance

  • Sounds (as MP3's) and Lighting Cues will be due via email by July 20th

What type of material can I submit TO Rogue?

Anything you can think of! Rogue is proud to blur the lines between different types of artistic expression. We want to see your work on stage! See below a list of possible art forms we will accept, but we'd love to hear about something new from you. 

- Straight Plays or Monologues

- Musicals or Song Cycles

- Clowning

- Dancing

- Magic and Illusions

- Improv

WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME, HUH?

Glad you asked! Beyond the obvious of having your work presented for an audience in a professional theater, there are a few other bonuses you'll enjoy when you participate in Rogue Theater Festival.
- 25% of total box office sales for your show
- Promotional materials (printed post cards, digital show promos, social media and press)
- A professional video recording of your show shared with you digitally 
-Lighting and Sound design
- Access to furniture at the theater 
- Each playwright receives a welcome kit!

Do I need to live in NYC to participate?

No! Not necessarily. The producer (aka whoever submits the piece) IS responsible for all costs needed to get your show to our stage. Rogue does not supply travel, housing, parking, rehearsal space, etc. If you are able to arrange things for your group to travel to NYC or for things to happen while you're elsewhere...fabulous.
